Understanding Conflict. Advancing Peace.
The Institute of War and Peace Studies (IWPS) is an independent, non-partisan think tank based in the United Kingdom. Founded in 2018 in Kabul, IWPS began as a platform for high-impact research and policy work on conflict, peacebuilding, and security governance in fragile states. Today – IWPS has expanded its mandate to explore the intersection of traditional security dynamics with emerging technologies such as AI, cyber operations and digital surveillance, especially in the context of the Global South.
We believe in the transformative power of research, analysis and advocacy. Our work spans across multiple thematic areas including peace and conflict resolution, defense strategy, AI in warfare, and strategic power competition. IWPS actively collaborates with academic institutions, government bodies, multilateral organizations, and civil society partners to inform evidence-based policy and foster sustainable peace.
Our past and present partners include Swedish Sida, European Union (Afghanistan programs), National Endowment for Democracy, American University of Afghanistan (AUAF), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, USI of India, and the Institute of Strategic Studies (ISS) Pakistan.
